International Partners for Education, Inc. supports secondary education for students facing financial challenges in partnership with the Baptist Convention of Malawi, and St. James Congregation of the Blantyre Synod, Church of Central Africa Presbyterian in Malawi. IPE supports partners’ administrative costs related to IPE goals. As the budget permits, IPE supports emergency needs of students or their families, pays tuition and stipend for students admitted to college, and considers making grants to other church groups for the same purposes. Based on gender disparities in education, and the significance of educating girls, IPE allocates 70% of its resources to girls’ education.
On February 21st, Cathy Buege (IPE Board Member), and Karen Solheim (IPE Co-President) met with Dr. Nancy Kendall, Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education, and graduate students Isaac Phiri and Stella Makhuva, both from Malawi, who are studying with Dr. Kendall. Dr. Kendall focuses on Educational Policy Studies and has conducted extensive research in Malawi. IPE board members gained insight from Dr. Kendall, Mr. Phiri and Ms. Makhuva as they shared their knowledge, wisdom, and experience regarding secondary education in Malawi. New knowledge and insight from conversations like this helps IPE develop its work.
